Between January 25 and 27, 2018, the EU-funded ERASMUS+ project EMPATIA, had its kickoff meeting in Rome at Foro Italico, University of Rome.
EMPATIA – Education Model for Parents of AThletes In Academics will run from January 2018 till December 2020. The focus is on information about the roles of parents and entourage of athletes during their dual careers, and aims to offer online education tools in several languages for that specific supporting group of stakeholders (e.G. European Guidelines of Dual Career)
For that project 10 partners, representing 6 european countries, from higher education sector, club sector, governing and sports bodies and two European networks decided to apply together. The project lead is taken by the University of Ljubljana (SLO), partners are:
- Foro Italico University of Rome (ITA),
- University of Limerick (IRL),
- University of Coimbra (POR),
- Italian National Olympic Committee – CONI (ITA),
- Ginásio Clube Figueirense (POR),
- Sport Ireland Institute (IRL),
- National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance – INSEP (FRA),
- European Athlete as Student – EAS Network (MLT) and
- EUSA Institute (SLO).
Starting with outcomes of preliminary findings in the field, the kick-off meeting aimed to bring the partners and their individual approach on the project to a common mind, discussed the working packages and related timelines and the proposed deliverables of the project. A strong focus was on the dissemination strategies, which will be crucial for the success.

Announcement of the upcoming elections @ the 2018 General Assembly in Coimbra
Dear Members,
hereby the Executive Committee likes to emphasize the member institutions to nominate candidates for the upcoming Executive Committee elections at the General Assembly of EAS in Coimbra / Portugal (12.-14. September 2018).
As mentioned in the General Assembly 2017 in Aarhus, the statutes point out the following rules for elections following the Maltese rules and regulations for Non Governmental Organizations with a legal seat in Malta.
- Nominations for Committee Members, shall be received before the thirty first (3l st) January each year. Nominations will not be accepted from the floor during an Annual General Meeting. All nominations must be duly proposed and seconded and bear the written consent of the person nominated.
- An application for nomination shall be in the form, from time to time prescribed by the Committee, and shall include the name, address, date of birth and occupation of the candidate, ID Number, and the signature of the Proposer and the Seconder.

- Name – Address – Date of birth – Occupation of the candidate.
- ID number and signatures from 2 proposers.
- The completed forms need to be sent to the Secretary General who enters the names in the Register of Candidates (joerg.foerster@uni-hamburg.de)
- The Secretary informs the nominated people in writing after the election whether they were elected or not.
- Those who are elected shall receive a copy of the Statutes and the Bye-laws.
- The election must be completed during the General Assembly.
