On July 14-15, 2018 EAS participated in the Rectors’ Conference organized as a part of the 4th European Universities Games (EUG) 2018 governed by the European University Sport Association (EUSA) and organized by the National University Sport Associations (NUSA).
The event has been held in the remarkable Sala dos Capelos of the University of Coimbra where the most relevant academic cerimonies take place.
The President of EUSA Mr. Adam Roczek, the President of the International University Sports Federation Mr. Oleg Matytsin, the Secretary of State of Youth and Sport of the Government of Portugal Mr. João Paulo Rebelo and the Rector of the University of Coimbra Mr. João Gabriel Silva, welcomed more than 50 participants who had a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas, experiences and good practice of university sports.
In particular, the President of EAS participated in the round table “Promoting dual career: A key issue for educational system”, during which several aspects of the combination of study and work have been addressed for the benefit of athletes and students.
At the end of the event, the Rectors signed the Coimbra’s Consensus Statement, which aims to improve the university sports in Europe.
The Secretary General Joerg Foerster represented EAS in Coimbra, also as a member of the Technical Commission and the actual Technical Delegate for Volleyball within EUSA. Furthermore, Antonio Figueiredo organized the meeting of the Executive Board of EAS during the EUG 2018.
Finally, the EUG 2018 Games have been a tremendous opportunity to collect data on athletic migration for the EU-funded project Athletic migration: Dual career and qualification in sports (AMID), coordinated by the Paris-Lodron-Universität Salzburg associated with KADA and the Olympic Centre Salzburg, in cooperation with University of Ljubljana associated with EUSA, University of Cassino and Southern Lazio associated with Centro Universitario Sportivo Cassino, University of Hamburg associated with the German University Sport Federation, Lapland University of Applied Sciences associated with Finnish Olympic Committee, and EAS.

We are pleased to announce that on September 12-14, 2018 at the Museu da Ciência in the historical site of the University of Coimbra, Portugal the 15th EAS Annual Conference will bring together experts in all fields related with the educational and sport systems to discuss state-of-the-art on dual career and to foresee future projects, collaborations and friendships for the benefit of athletes as students.
The theme for the 2018 Conference is: “Establishing an effective framework in dual career” and will include presentations related to globalization in dual career, the dialectic relationship between club and high school, university sport, and sport governance.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to attend the presentation of the winner of the Bengt Nybelius scholarship for young investigators.
