In cooperation with the University of Latvia we are pleased to announce the 9th Annual EAS Conference, held in Riga between 13th – 15th September, was a great success for all participants.
The programme included a variety of views and experiences within the topic “Dual Career – East meets west.” Distinguished speakers from a number of European nations plus information on innovative projects has allowed us to focus on new plans for the future. The Workshops “Family, education and sport” and “Importance of sports at the University” was a unique opportunity to exchange both professional and personal experiences. Visits to the Olympic Sports centre and a sightseeing programme was a popular choice for all attendees.
Even though a success, the enjoyable presence of Bengt Nybelius was truly missed. During the welcome event we held a one minute silence in memory of Bengt, the former EAS President and close friend of many throughout the Network. During the conference a proposal for the development of the “Bengt Nybelius Scholarship” was initiated. The idea is to launch the call for proposal every year, calling talented students from the higher education area to conduct research in the field of Dual Career. The EAS will support this work financially and provide the necessary circumstances for the work to carry out successfully. We are in the process of completing the details of the Scholarship and further details will be available soon.
First of all a much appreciated thank you goes to Ilvis and his colleagues for the organisation and hosting of this event at the University of Latvia. We would also like to thank all of our speakers and the delegates for their enthusiasm for the dual career project, we left Latvia with a positive attitude following discussions within the general assembly.
