On May 18, 2022, the International School Sport Federation (ISF) organized in Deauville, France the ISF Forum “School sport & healthy lifestyle” as a cultural event of the ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022, the largest school sports event in the world.
The Forum was opened by Laurent Pétrynka – ISF President and moderated by Kole Gjeloshaj – ISF Deputy Secretary General. Four panel discussions were scheduled: “School sport & healthy lifestyle” (speakers: Diane de Navacelle – de Coubertin, Marisa Fernandez Esteban – Unit for Sport of the European Commission, and Fausto Rotelli – Institutional Affairs and Corporate Communication, Ferrero), “School sports as a strategic activity” (speakers: Sophie Kwasny – EPAS Council of Europe, Louise Renee Thobi Etame-Ndedi – CONFEJES, Asterios Zois – FIBA, David Cabello – BWF, and Marie Barsacq – Paris 2024), “Safeguarding of children in sport” (speakers: Deqa Niamkey – UWW, Francine Raveney – EPAS Council of Europe, Mike Hartil – Centre for Child Protection and Safeguarding in Sport, and Karen Leach – Expert and Leading Voice on Safeguarding of children in Sport, and “Gender equality and school sports” (speakers: Emine Bozkurt – EU High-Level Group on Gender Equality in Sport, Valerie Lebondo, ISF Gender Equality Committee, and Laura Capranica – European Athlete as a Student).
During the event, the need to implement a holistic development of youth was emphasized and the cooperation between educational institutions and sports bodies was recognized crucial, especially to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this respect, the role of school sport is central, as testified by the large participation of international youth student-athletes in the sport and educational activities organized during the ISF Gymnasiade Normandy 2022.
