Between the 5th and the 7th of May the first workshop of the EU-funded Pro Safe Sport for Young Athletes (PSS) project was held in Budapest, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences of Semmelweis University (TF). The project is led by the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport of the Council of Europe (EPAS), and EAS is one of the 14 project partners.

During the 3-day event EAS was represented by Dr. Tibor Kozsla, president and Mariann Bardocz-Bencsik, execituve assistant.

The opening presentation of the event was held by Mr. Bart Ooijen, policy officer at the European Commission, who emphasized the importance of the topic of the project. He mentioned that therefore several other projects in the field were also funded by the Commission this year.

The series of thematic presentartions started with the one of Dr. Zsolt Radák – the Dean of the host faculty – in the topic of rest and regeneration. He was followed by Dr. István Berkes – the vice-dean for science of TF – in the topic of injury prevention. The last presenter from the host university was Dr. Gábor Géczi, associate professor in the Department of Sport Management, who talked about the physical well-being of emerging athletes. The final speech was held by Dr. Henrik Gustafsson, associate professor from the Karlstad University (SWE) who spoke about the topic of overtraining and burnout.

After the presentations the project partners worked in smaller-larger groups during two days to develop one of the deliverables of the project, a toolkit for the target groups (young athletes, coaches, parents and sport organisations). The workshop was facilitated by László Földi, trainer of the Council of Europe.

The partners agreed on that the next workshop will be held in Leeds, UK in the middle of July, where they continue working on the toolkit. Till then they still search for good practices in the field of protecting young athletes.
