ANTI-DOPING is a serious aspect of Dual Career framework and so EAS is looking forward to the results of the GAME project, which probably can contribute to other researches and projects in the field of Dual Career.
The EU funded project GAME took place in Kaunas for its second project meeting on 22 and 23 November 2018.
The GAME project addresses the need to advance anti-doping education for competitive and recreational athletes. Recently, several anti-doping educational campaigns have been developed to tackle doping use in competitive and recreational sports. Project GAME recognizes the need to move forwards and transform the way anti-doping education is designed, delivered and evaluated. In this respect, Project GAME aims to utilize:
a. updated research from the social and behavioural sciences on doping use;
b. state-of-art learning pedagogies; and
c. cutting-edge serious gaming design and technology in order to deliver an innovative and impactful anti-doping educational intervention.
Project GAME contributes to the fight against doping in the following ways:
• It will provide a serious game that is expected to reach wider audiences than typical anti-doping education campaigns.
• It will utilise an innovative educational approach in teaching adolescents and young athletes.
• It will produce a report on evidence-based policy recommendations in order to improve existing policies against doping in amateur sport.
ENAS, which is a partner of EAS, will take a disseminating role in the GAME project and will explore what anti-doping measures are in place in Universities and Colleges around Europe in a professional as well as recreational context.

Chairs of the Organizing Committee

On December 7-8, 2018, the University of Ljubljana hosted the 9th Conference on Youth Sport, which is a biannual forum to discuss the most relevant challenges of the development of young athletes.
Professor Milan Zvan (Dean of the Faculty of Sport at the University of Ljubljana), welcomed the President of the Slovenian Olympic Committee Mr. Bogdan Gabrovec , the Chair of the EPAS Governing Board Mr Zoran Verovnik, the Members of EUSA Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Ms Sara Rozman, Mr Andrej Pisl, the key note speakers Prof. Jay Coakley (University of Colorado, USA), Prof. Antonio Tessitore (University of Rome Foro Italico, Italy), and Mr. Risto Keskitalo (Oulu Region Academy of Sports and founder of EAS, Finland). EAS was also represented by its President, Prof. Laura Capranica, and Treasurer, Prof. Mojca Doupona Topic.
From November 30-December 1 the EAS President Prof. Capranica and EAS Treasurer Prof. Doupona Topic disseminated the aims and activities of the Network at the Celebration of the University of Taipei (Taiwan).
The EPAS provides a platform for intergovernmental sport cooperation between the public authorities of its Member States. It also encourages dialogue between public authorities, sports federations and NGOs.
This contributes to better governance in order to make sport more ethical, more inclusive and safer. The EPAS Advisory Committee met on 10 September at the Council of Europe headquarters in Paris.

Laurence BLONDEL, member of INSEP’s Board of Directors and member of the Executive Board of EAS, represented EAS on this committee. The purpose of the meeting day was to review the mandate of the EPAS Advisory Committee adopted by the Governing Board on May 18, 2016.
This representation is particularly important for the EAS because we have voices and listening to European partners on the importance of the dual career of high level athletes.

Athletes are one of the greatest parts of all society. They are driven. They are focused on their goals. The skillsets and characteristics common among successful athletes can also be found among the best employees. An athlete with a higher education is a valuable human resource and could achieve greater social and labour market success.
In most of the European countries Dual Career still is at the very early stage. Currently, professional sport and education are two different things. Most different activities in Dual Career in the field of higher education are done by individuals in their own way. There is no actually ready recipe for HEI about the best way on how to support athletes for Dual Career.
At the same time, there are various activities implemented in HEI every day and would be a great support for athletes, such as Career center services, Mentoring program for young students (where mentors are experienced students), different activities helping young students to adapt in high school and others.
Project “More than gold” aims to develop:
– Guidelines for HEI on how to support Dual Career;
– Methodology material with collected best practices for supporting Dual Career from HEI side.
As the result of the project first of all will be developed Guidelines for HEI, which each partner organization can submit to Ministry responsible for education in the country (for example, Ministry of education and science) and afterward Ministry can recommend using Guidelines for all HEI in the country.
Second – HEI will have Methodology material on how to easily use already existing activities and services for Dual Career support.
Project coordinator is University of Latvia and partner consortium includesAlexandru Ioan Cuza University, Fundación Universitaria San Antonio, Universidade de Coimbra, D’Annunzio University of Chieti–Pescara) and The European Athlete as Student (EAS) network. The project will start at January 2019 and will last 24 months. Project is co-financed by the European Union, Erasmus+ Sport program.

DECEMBER 12, 2018, FREE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON OPTIMIZING ATHLETES’ EMPLOYABILITY
Brussels Health Campus, Jette (Brussels), Auditorium P. Brouwer; Organizer: B-WISER, BE A WINNER IN ELITE SPORT AND EMPLOYMENT BEFORE AND AFTER ATHLETIC RETIREMENT
With the support from the Erasmus+ Sport Programme of the European Union, a consortium of universities, national Olympic and Paralympic committees, and elite sport centres from six EU Member States (Belgium, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden) together with international experts in elite sport, career counselling, employment and HR, initiated the project ‘Be a Winner In elite Sport and Employment before and after athletic Retirement’: B-WISER. By identifying the existing support structures and measures, the competencies required by athletes, and the added value for employers, B-WISER aims at optimizing the employability and employment of athletes in three specific career stages: (1) when they are active in elite sport, (2) when they have retired from elite sport and are preparing for a first-time employment, and (3) when they are employed in their post-athletic career.
On behalf of the B-WISER consortium we are pleased to invite you to join us for our international dedicated symposium on December 12 at the Health Campus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, in Belgium. Apart from international experts’ reflections on the results, the value and implications of the B-WISER project, the programme offers parallel workshops where participants learn how specific tools and instruments are used in working with active and former elite athletes. The final programme will be communicated soon.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Brussels for an exciting international symposium on optimizing athletes’ employability! While participation is free, pre-registration is required.Registration runs until December 1st.
The project coordinators, Paul Wylleman, Koen De Brandt, Simon Defruyt & Sofie Smismans
