Kick-off-Meeting of EU funded “Dual Career” project. “STARTING 11” took place at Amsterdam University of Applied Science (AUAS) at 6./7. February.
That project unites leading European institutions in dual career research and practice, to create the very first European Dual Career Toolkit. The lead is taken by the Amsterdam University of Applied Science, Partners are:
– Athletes as Students Network (EAS – Malta)
– Creps Toulouse (CREPS – France)
– German University Sport Federation (adh – Germany)
– Sportlycee Luxembourg (SplL – Luxembourg)
– Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS – England)
Aim of the project is to develop tailored tools to the specific demand of dual career service providers in the EU member states. Using an integrated approach, STARTING 11 empowers key actors in sport, education and the labour market to provide high quality services to athletes in all stages of their sporting career, reaching from school level to the stage of retirement from sport.
EAS is represented in that project by Prof. Laura Capranica (Foro Italico) and Ole Keldorf (Eliteidraet Scole Aarhus – ESAA).
The new year 2019 started with a visit of EAS President, Prof. Laura Capranica, at EAS member institution INSEP in Paris (France).
In focus of the meeting had been, the new developed platform for elite French athletes called “PORTAIL DE SUIVI QUOTIDIEN DU SPORTIF“ (PSQS). That platform …
By launching that platform, INSEP is aiming to systemize the different athletes service areas on one digital platform, for athletes and all related persons and institutions in the field of elite sport.
ANTI-DOPING is a serious aspect of Dual Career framework and so EAS is looking forward to the results of the GAME project, which probably can contribute to other researches and projects in the field of Dual Career.
The EU funded project GAME took place in Kaunas for its second project meeting on 22 and 23 November 2018.
The GAME project addresses the need to advance anti-doping education for competitive and recreational athletes. Recently, several anti-doping educational campaigns have been developed to tackle doping use in competitive and recreational sports. Project GAME recognizes the need to move forwards and transform the way anti-doping education is designed, delivered and evaluated. In this respect, Project GAME aims to utilize:
a. updated research from the social and behavioural sciences on doping use;
b. state-of-art learning pedagogies; and
c. cutting-edge serious gaming design and technology in order to deliver an innovative and impactful anti-doping educational intervention.
Project GAME contributes to the fight against doping in the following ways:
• It will provide a serious game that is expected to reach wider audiences than typical anti-doping education campaigns.
• It will utilise an innovative educational approach in teaching adolescents and young athletes.
• It will produce a report on evidence-based policy recommendations in order to improve existing policies against doping in amateur sport.
ENAS, which is a partner of EAS, will take a disseminating role in the GAME project and will explore what anti-doping measures are in place in Universities and Colleges around Europe in a professional as well as recreational context.

Athletes are one of the greatest parts of all society. They are driven. They are focused on their goals. The skillsets and characteristics common among successful athletes can also be found among the best employees. An athlete with a higher education is a valuable human resource and could achieve greater social and labour market success.
In most of the European countries Dual Career still is at the very early stage. Currently, professional sport and education are two different things. Most different activities in Dual Career in the field of higher education are done by individuals in their own way. There is no actually ready recipe for HEI about the best way on how to support athletes for Dual Career.
At the same time, there are various activities implemented in HEI every day and would be a great support for athletes, such as Career center services, Mentoring program for young students (where mentors are experienced students), different activities helping young students to adapt in high school and others.
Project “More than gold” aims to develop:
– Guidelines for HEI on how to support Dual Career;
– Methodology material with collected best practices for supporting Dual Career from HEI side.
As the result of the project first of all will be developed Guidelines for HEI, which each partner organization can submit to Ministry responsible for education in the country (for example, Ministry of education and science) and afterward Ministry can recommend using Guidelines for all HEI in the country.
Second – HEI will have Methodology material on how to easily use already existing activities and services for Dual Career support.
Project coordinator is University of Latvia and partner consortium includesAlexandru Ioan Cuza University, Fundación Universitaria San Antonio, Universidade de Coimbra, D’Annunzio University of Chieti–Pescara) and The European Athlete as Student (EAS) network. The project will start at January 2019 and will last 24 months. Project is co-financed by the European Union, Erasmus+ Sport program.
